On a glorious sunny day of 14-16 June 1996, the inaugural reunion of the 60's 16ers (1960's 16 Signal Regiment - Including HQ BAOR Signal Troop - Reunion Club) took place at the Naval and Military Club in Southend on Sea.
Thirty four ex-members attended, coming from all over the country, with two members making it all the way from Hong Kong and Canada respectively. The majority arrived on the Friday evening, which buzzed with stories of the 'good old days'. By now the names some where called in the old days had definitely mellowed. I have not seen so many smiling faces in a long time.
Saturday morning found more had arrived prior to the inaugural general meeting, which was to decide where to go from here. There was only one answer - more and more! By the evening all those attending had arrived, for the social with buffet. This was when all the photo albums appeared refreshing one's memory, prizes to celebrate the weekend exchanged, and photographs taken. After an evening wetting our taste buds, rekindled memories, we all joined in Auld Lang Syne, before retiring happily for the night. Sunday saw the return journey home, with vows that next year would be bigger and better.
It was especially good to see both Anne Ferrier (nee Fossett) and Pat Barker, who sadly are now both widows, however, they both have fond memories, in the case of the former also of 16 Signal Regiment.
