60s 16ers

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Held at Moorside Grange Hotel, Disley

At 10.30 on Sunday 14th October 2012

1 Bereavements, Welcomes and Apologies

A minutes silence was held in memory of Rae White and other departed friends.

Noreen Dixon chaired the meeting and welcomed all the new members to the event.

Apologies were received from Wayne and Brenda Edwards, Tony Teague, Caesar and Angela Bowen and Marlene O’Hagen.

2 Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The previous minutes were distributed with February’s Mercury and placed on the Website to enable everyone to see them.

The members were asked if there were any comments or matters arising from those minutes. None were received therefore the minutes were taken as a true record of the Meeting.

3 Chairman’s Report

Noreen Dixon thanked Ted & Gwen Theis for their hard work in organising the event and liaising with the hotel staff, who provided good food and service since arrival.

She also made mention of the following:

4 Treasurer’s Report

Peter Crane put up the Budget Sheet for 2012 – attached.

Budget for current year:

5 Secretary’s Report

Beverley Robb reported that there was a mail out of 252 UK letters and 3 International letters at the end of 2011 to update the database. The outcome was:

New Members – there have been 11 new members since October 2011

Taff Allen

Bob Cash

Ron Ferguson

Steve Iceton

Carry Mooney (Wilson)

Liz Styles (Parnham)

David Ward

Wendy & David Brown

Marion & Andy Hearn

Searches have been undertaken to find potential new members, however to date no-one new has been found and from 3 alerts , no-one from 16 Signal Regiment during the ‘60’s.

Finally, there was a request to anyone whose contact details had changed, to fill in their new information so that the database could be updated.

6 Entertainment Co-Ordinator’s Report

Dave Aldous thanked the Entertainment Committee for all their hard work and commitment over the years but stated that he felt it was now time to hand over to someone new who could bring some fresh ideas to the table. He had enjoyed his time organising the events but would be available to assist in a support role if asked.

7 Mercury Editor’s Report

Ian Haldane stated that only 4 copies of the Bradbury Mercury need to be posted twice a year at a cost £20 per year. All the others are sent by email. This helps to keep the cost down, however any changes of email address should be notified to the Secretary.

Photographs from the Reunion Weekend will be put on the Web as usual.

8 Web Master’s Report

Ted Hebden stated that he tries to keep the website as topical as possible with themes relevant to the time of the year or events in the news:

Not only is the Website and information source for members, it is also a gateway to other sites:

Marion and Andy Hearn were found through RSA, which was a joy to Rose and Skip Harding as they had not seen them for over 40 years.

The Comcen is used on a daily basis by many of the members, however the Chat facility is not really used.

There are now two ways to read the Bradbury Mercury. You can either click on the edition you want to view and scroll down, or you can op to go for ‘Page changes’ and read it as you would a newspaper.

And, last but not least, there had been live coverage of the handover of Teri’s Olympic torch.

9 Vice-Chairman’s Comments & RSA Report

Pete Weedon spoke to the members about his concerns regarding the negative interaction of some people in the Comcen. He asked that should anyone have a gripe that they discuss it with the person in question privately and not have a slanging match through the Comcen.

Pete also voiced his appreciation for Ted’s hard work on the website and this was echoed by the members.

Charity Donation

It was proposed to donate £100 to the charity named by the Organiser of the event – Ted & Gwen Theis. This was agreed.

60’s 16ers

There was a discussion on the future of the club and the selection criteria for membership.

Laurie Moore said that she had met with Chris Bartlett (the Founder) and he said that he wanted the club to carry on.

The membership had grown from its inception to about 120 in 2004 but had dropped back to approximately 70. The main discussion point was whether the membership should be opened up to people who served with 16 Signal Regiment during the 1970’s. Reme Harper said that there was now a 70’s group. The possible integration of the 60s and 70s clubs and the logistics of organising larger groups was considered and a vote was taken.

The vote was carried to stay as 60’s 16ers and not open up membership to anyone from the 1970’s – with the exception of those who were already members of the club.

Membership

Two years ago there was an amnesty for those who had not paid their subs, however from that point on all subs had to be paid up – that included:
