MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Dear Members
Enough is enough and by that I refer to the messages that have been posted on the Forum page by certain members. The committee has been accused of having a hidden agenda in the way that they have behaved in reaching a decision concerning a Wedding Present.
Hidden agenda what hidden agenda! I honestly thought that the committee was elected to oversee the day to day running of our Association and to make certain decisions when called upon.
Now saying that, about a month ago I was contacted by a member informing me of the impending Marriage of Geoff and Pat and what did I think about sending a present? I told the member that I would speak to the committee and inform her of the outcome and this is what I did.
The decision that we reached was not taken lightly, but we felt that it was the right one, because this is a private matter, although a kind invitation has been extended to all members. Surely then if anyone attends and they wish to give a present, that is their individual choice. However our Secretary does have the date and she will be sending a Congratulations card wishing them all the best for the future.
On the 30th March Carol posted a message asking other members what they felt about a present, this I have been watching with interest and so far there have been no replies.
When I read Jackie’s message asking for an explanation, I thought I would 'e' mail both her and Carol telling them of our decision and any questions (if asked) would be answered at the next AGM. Also if enough members were to contact me or the committee, or post a message saying that they are in agreement of a present, then our decision would be overturned.
Apparently this 'e' mail has been classed as weird by Carol and she even goes as far as accusing me of telling her “to keep her nose out”. I have re read this ' e' mail over and over and I can assure you that no way does it say that, so it beats me as to why she has said it.
When I accepted the Chairmanship last October, I never thought for one minute that I would have to defend myself and the committee in this manner, so I will reiterate what I said at the beginning and that is “Enough is Enough” it must stop here before irreparable damage is done to our Great Club.
Before I sign off, I honestly hope that Geoff and Pat do not hear of the furore concerning their Wedding.
Take care and stay safe
Syd
Chairman
