Magazine: The chair
proposed that a colour printer be purchased for the editor of the
'Mercury' to use at home which was proposed at the Skegness reunion but
prices had been prohibitive back then. Now with prices coming down
considerable, a good deal could be found. The vice chair proposed that a
printer now be purchased Vote: Unanimous The printer will belong to the association. 9. Entertainment: Report from Syd Wilson. Copy
to be sent to the secretary, 10. raffle.
The chair asked the floor if they wanted the raffle to
continue. Vote: Unanimous Several proposals as to the format of the raffle were
given;
1 What night?
2 Too many money spinners
3 Gala night or Sunday? It was pointed out that a lot of people actually leave after the AGM on a Sunday. It was suggested that the entertainment Committee discuss and make a decision. P Gallagher suggested that it be held on gala dinner night but have 1 person come up from each table and draw a number of tickets. This way there would be less disruption. 11.
Affiliation to RSA. Chris Abbot put it to the floor about the 60s-16ers
becoming affiliated to the RSA. There would be the benefit of having
Public Liability insurance but the RSA would require a copy of the
annual statement of accounts. Those present could already be members if
they had given a day's pay while in service. A long debate eschewed with
various members airing their opinions. Vote. Unanimous. Carried motion Chris Abbot to contact the RSA to find out who is a
member already. 12. Purchase
of Flag. Syd Wilson brought members' attention to the flag that was
on the wall that he had loaned from a friend in Harrogate. There was a
flag making company in Knaresborough that would make a '60s-16ers 'flag for £230 + VAT. Vote: Against carried motion. 13. Venue for the 2006 reunion. John Dixon proposed Torquay and went on to explain that the hotel had changed hands since we were last there. There were about 60 rooms with an overspill going to a sister hotel about 5 minutes walk away. Cost would be about £132 per person. Syd Wilson propose
Harrogate as he had found another hotel that was bigger than we have had
before and would be able to accommodate the growing numbers that the
reunion club was now attracting. The Cairn
Hotel would cost £290 for a couple, £175 single, for three
nights and all meals. The club would have the use of their 'Promenade Suite', which holds 240 people. Vote: Harrogate Unanimous. Carried motion Proposal £200
