Chairman’s report AGM 2004-Loch Lomond

  Welcome to the 2004 AGM.

Its good to see yet again so many faces and a particular welcome to the new members.

First a very special thanks to Trev who has really worked hard to co-ordinate this venue to ensure its success. He will tell us  in a few minute of how much he  enjoyed organising it !

As last year it has been good to see that so may of you have been arranging your own link up with old friends you have met through the reunion club to re kindle old friendships – its always good to hear that these events are taking place in different parts of the UK.

Hazel did me a surprise 60th birthday party last January and I was delighted to see that some of you were there.

We have to recognise that time marches on   and naturally will takes it toll on our health   so once again let me emphasise that when we learn of health problems to  any of  our members and ex comrades then the club should be informed.

As usual the website has proved invaluable and continues to gain popularity globally by ex members of the regiment who now live overseas. We do get various messages of how pleased these ex-members are to come across the website and see all the articles and photos of past reunions. The interesting thing is that these people are still  using the comments part of the website where we allow visitors to sign the book.

For those of you who  keep a regular eye on the website   you will remember that  it suddenly went off the air for quite a  while. I thought it was down to servicing but as time went on I found that  Ken had lost his NTL link due to moving house so the website account went into suspense. Anyway I decided to place the club site within a subdirectory of  my own website where it is now hosted by Onetel. With the blessing of our treasurer we commissioned a local guy to  upload the site from my PC and also provide a little training on File Transfer Protocol. The end result was that I can maintain ( to   some extent ) the website and make minor updating changes. Hopefully our expert Ken will back to normal  to carry on this worth while duty.

The Bradbury Mercury which we publish twice yearly continues to be admirably edited by Tweet and Taff . We  always need contributions so please forward anything which may be of interest. We would like some of the new members to tell us whats been happening since we saw them last. Remember this is a lifeline to those who live abroad.

Finally after this   being our 5th reunion since the death of our founder – Chris Bartlett – where myself and Hazel were elected rather rapidly. Somehow last year we managed to get elected for a further year – more by bribery, corruption and downright blackmail than anything else. We  now find that we should now relinquish our posts ( having done our stint ) and pass the opportunity onto others who are willing enough to give it a go ! Thank you for all of you gave your assistance to help to make it the thriving reunion club that it is.
