Assistant Secretaries Report – Lorraine Moore AGM
Containing l999 report also

Upon joining the association back in 1998, the founder of the 60s-16ers, Chris, asked if I would like to help him with the organisation and proposed that I assisted him as assistant secretary. My brief was to publicise, via various media groups, the existence of the association and thus hope to find ex comrades who would join.

Chris also kept me duly updated by copying association business to me (a11 filed).

At Alton in '99 he asked that if anything were ever to happen to him, for me to promise to continue with the work which 1 was doing and so help to keep the association running. Finding this quite a strange request at the time, I replied that I would indeed do as he had requested. It seems he knew something that I was totally unaware of.

To this end, I will uphold my promise to Chris, work with those members elected to the various offices, thus continuing with my contribution to the association.

1999. This year I sent out 44 mail/email shots and received 21 responses, which was quite good. Amongst those responses was Tom Thornton who kept us all well entertained with jokes and anecdotes at Alton. Also Hazel Flynn (who served with some of us present today) who was on holiday from California to her mum's in Coventry. She telephoned me immediately she saw the letter in the        local paper. Fate you see as her flight to America was the very next day. Quite a few of the responses were from National Service/2 L of C,

2002 This year I have sent out 58 mail shots to various media groups including the Police Federation, the Prison Service Journal and the Fire Brigades' Union. I have received 19 responses, but none have been from any of the three Public Services. I assume that my letter was actually published! One of the responses was from Col Pope (IC 1 Sqn, OC Regt). He has left a message on our web site.

Again there were some Nat: Svc: /2L of C. and some who were at the Regiment post 1969/70 and which at the moment, is outside of our trawl date.

Responses that I receive and they are either added to our database as ex comrades or added to the end of the database under 'miscellaneous'.

All new contacts (60-69/70), are sent a copy of the data base to date, and a proforma for service information if it is lacking.

Information contained in the current database is a11 that I have. Requests for additional information from the email contacts has either been returned as undeliverable of have remained unanswered.

The database is a contacts only list and not a members' list. The Treasurer holds this.

Expenses. A documented expense sheet for 1999 - £11. 54 and 2002 – £40.17, has been presented to the Treasurer.

I have supplied a proforma denoting information missing from some of the members present. So if they would be kind enough to complete this before they go I can update and make the database more efficient.

When any member of the committee, especia11y the secretary, receives contact from ex 16 personnel, the information is passed to me for processing. Then I fo11ow up with additional paperwork as mentioned above.

Ultimately the database is then copied onto Aoppy disc and sent to the administration for their records.

I would just request that we all continue with networking for ex members. Just think how many service personnel were at the regiment from 1960 – 1969/70 and we can see that there are stil1 a huge number that we have not yet found!

Also if anyone has any ideas as to where to advertise (list of media used disp1ayed) please let me know!

Thank you.
